Track Paranormal Events

Posted by admin in Tips

The third season of “Paranormal State” on A&E Network was eagerly anticipated by regular viewers who enjoyed following along with a group of students at Penn State University College as they and their director investigate paranormal phenomena. The dramatic series chronicles the real-life case files of the Paranormal Research Society (PRS) unraveling mysteries such as ghost sightings, sixth-sense phenomena, demonic apparitions, and other brushes with the unknown.

This season’s debut is especially intriguing to viewers because it coincides with the launch of a free application for iPhone and iPod Touch users. The application, called the Paranormal State EMF Reader, temporarily converts these mobile devices and makes them EMF readers so users can hone in on electromagnetic field (EMF) fluctuations. By downloading and installing this free application, users can become paranormal investigators with the ability to sweep their own surrounding locations to look for paranormal activity and ghostly entities.

Paranormal investigators routinely use EMF meters to scan for electromagnetic fields. EMFs may be emitted as a sign of paranormal activity from beyond the grave. According to Paul Jelinek, Sr. Vice President of Digital Media at A&E Television Networks, “Paranormal entities have to gather energy when manifesting themselves or attempting to communicate, which causes EMFs to fluctuate, making EMF readers essential tools for all aspiring paranormal investigators.” A&E designed the EMF readers for iPhone and iPod Touch devices so they could reach out to the regular viewers of “Paranormal State” and give them an engaging application to supplant and enhance their enjoyment of the show. Houdini

Posted by admin in Tips

The father hired the best lawyer that money could buy. In an effort to save his son he paid off policemen, prosecutors and finally even the judge himself. In the end it was ruled that there was insufficient evidence to prosecute and the young heir and the family name were saved. Unfortunately due to the large amounts of money spent saving his son the mansion, the business and the property had to be sold. When the family finally vacated the house it was rumored that they were nearly penniless.

This was the first tragedy connected with the gothic mansion. It had been said that the place itself was cursed and that those who occupied the house would be plagued by bad luck and disaster. Other strange things have taken place here over the years and many of those involved the man who purchased this house from the furniture store owner. That man was Harry Houdini and he lived in the mansion during the 1920s. While he lived there the mansion became host to séances, strange experiments and more and there are those who say that this cursed castle may have cost the famous magician his life.

Harry Houdini was born in Budapest, Hungary on March 24, 1874 but grew up as Ehrich Weiss in a small Wisconsin town called Appleton. His father was Rabbi Meyer Samuel Weiss and he moved his family to Milwaukee to take over a Jewish congregation there. At about this time Ehrich became interested in magic and stage performing. He became determined to be a professional magician and later appeared in New York beer halls and theaters under the name of Houdini. The name was based on the name of Robert Houdin, a famous French magician. For several years he played in traveling shows and theaters. While performing at Coney Island in New York he met his wife Bess.

Houdini employed a variety of new and strange stunts in his act and devised amazing escapes that had never been done before. After awhile he became known as the “Handcuff King” because he could escape easily from restraints. As his escapes became more daring he would allow police officers and various officials in the cities where he played to design their own challenges for him as a publicity stunt. Houdini never failed them.

Soon he had become an American and world-wide sensation performing to sold-out crowds. Houdini became an expert in the field of magic and it is unfortunate that today’s magicians and scholars don’t have a chance to learn about his secrets. Houdini’s many journals and notes remained in the possession of his brother after his death and when his brother died, they were destroyed.

It was said that even Houdini himself marveled at the ease with which he could escape from his daring and dangerous traps. At a dinner party around 1924, a Captain Bartlett asked Houdini about one of this escapes. To which Houdini replied “I cannot tell you, for I don’t know myself, and I have always dreaded what might result should I fail.”

Houdini was not only a famous but also a troubled man. He became obsessed with his mother’s death because he was unnaturally close to her during her lifetime. After her death he was observed lying face down on her grave holding long conversations with her. At this time he turned to Spiritualism. It was a movement based on purported communication with the spirits of the dead which began in New York in 1848 and enjoyed a great revival after WW I. The Spiritualists believed that one could communicate with the dead through séances. These were held in darkened rooms where all manner of ghostly phenomena was said to manifest. Through this movement Houdini hoped to communicate with the spirit of his dead mother.

In a short time Houdini came to realize that there were a greater number of fake mediums than those who really had the talent to communicate with the dead and he became a self-appointed crusader against them. During a tour of England in 1920 Houdini met Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of Sherlock Holmes and a spokesperson for Spiritualism. They became good friends even though they had opposing views on the supernatural. Conan Doyle had given up most of his lucrative writing career to lecture about Spiritualism around the world. He discovered that Houdini also had a vast knowledge of the spirit world. Houdini continued to attend séances and hosted many of his own in his new home in Laurel Canyon. Read entire article.

Cloaking Devices

Posted by admin in Tips

Lead researcher Tolga Ergin explained that the cloak is composed of a grouping of crystals with air spaces between them, similar to a pile of wood. As light passes through the crystals, it bends, hiding the bump in the layer of gold beneath. The bump was extremely tiny – only .00004″ high and .0005″ wide – and could be seen only with a magnifying lens. The team designed what Ergin called a “photonic metamaterial” that was able to influence the behavior of light rays. The design is based on a “carpet cloak” that was first suggested by Professor Sir John Pendry of Imperial College London. Pendry proposed the theory of having an object hidden beneath a bump, and then making the bump invisible. “It’s like a carpet mirror,” Ergin said. “If you hide an object under it, there is a bump, so you see a distortion in the reflected image. We put the carpet cloak on top of that bump and it bends the light so that the distortions disappear.”

Under this experiment, the reflective surface (carpet) appeared to be flat. The team used “laser writing” to create the cloak, using a tightly focused laser beam to “write” on light-sensitive material. Ergin explained, “Wherever you put the focus spot into the material, it will harden. It’s a similar process to photography – when you develop it, whatever hasn’t been exposed to the laser will be washed away.”

Invisibility cloaks use special materials to deflect light, radar, or other waves that flow around an object, similar to water flowing around a smooth pebble in a babbling brook. Invisibility is different from stealth technology, which is not designed to make an airplane invisible, but instead to reduce the cross-section image available to radar. Read entire article.

How to Learn Magic Tricks at Home

There are lots of tricks that you can learn to do at home for free. Learning magic tricks takes a lot more than just knowing how to do it. It needs regular practice and skill. Along with knowing how to do the trick, you must also know ways of keeping the audience engaged and responsive. This can be done by talking a lot and asking them questions. Remember to always prepare well and in case of any sudden errors, be calm and composed and act as if it was a part of the show, or move on to another trick. Develop your skills in speaking and get over your stage fear. While practicing it is always recommended to use a mirror, and keep in mind how your trick will look, to the audience. If the trick requires your audience to be at a certain angle, then make sure you place yourself that way. Read on to continue learning magic tricks online.

Easy Magic Tricks
Here are some easy to do tricks, that do not need too much expenditure, but can still have an audience wondering, how did you do it.Coin Through Paper Trick: For this you need a piece of paper and two coins, one bigger than the other. Now make a hole in the center of the paper by drawing a circle around the smaller coin and ask your friends, if they could fit the bigger coin through the hole without tearing the paper. They will try to do it and get frustrated. Then show them that it can easily be done by simply placing the bigger coin on the paper and then folding the paper along the center, and then bend it. The bending of the paper causes the hole to increase in size and allows the bigger coin to come through.
•Dice Trick: This one is a close up magic trick and involves a glass, either empty or containing a drink that allows you to see the dice, which you will be putting in the glass. Take three dice and ask a volunteer to put them in the glass. Now tell them to lift the glass up, (be creative on how you do that) and see the faces of the dice through the bottom of the glass. Now tell them to keep the glass back, on to the table and not show you the faces. Now inform them that you can tell exactly what total they have thrown without looking into the glass. This is because you can guess the total on the upper faces by taking the total of lower faces and subtracting it by 21.
•Mind Reading Trick: A very simple trick which could fool anyone. Tell an audience that you can read minds. Ask them for names of celebrities or places, and as they do that, write each one down on small cards, which are then folded and put into a bowl. The trick, is to ‘pretend’ that you are writing different names each time, but you should actually write just one name, the one that was said first. So all the chits will have just one name. Now ask a volunteer from the audience to pick any name, and pretend to read his mind. Now write your answer on a slate and reveal it to the audience and the audience member. It will be the same name as the one he picked.
